An ear, nose, and throat doctor (ENT) specializes in everything having to do with those parts of the body. They’re also called otolaryngologists.
ex:- Ear infection, Hearing loss, Tinnitus, Swimmer’s ear, dizziness.
Their special skills include diagnosing and managing diseases of the sinuses, larynx (voice box), oral cavity, and upper pharynx (mouth and throat), as well as structures of the neck and face. Otolaryngologists diagnose, treat, and manage specialty-specific disorders as well as many primary care problems in both children and adults.
Rhinology:
Rhinology is a speciality of otolaryngology (ENT) that focuses on the treatment of illnesses and disorders of the nasal cavity and sinuses. Allergies, taste and smell issues, nose bleeds, blocked nasal airflow and sinusitis are examples of symptoms.
Laryngology
Laryngology is a branch of medicine that deals with illnesses and injuries of the larynx (often called the voice box). This is a special section of otolaryngology, which focuses on the ear, nose and throat. The voice box is located on the front of the neck and it holds the vocal cords. It’s responsible for sound production and swallowing. There are many conditions that can affect the larynx ranging from laryngitis and vocal cord nodules to laryngeal cancer.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease
A digestive disorder in which stomach acid or bile irritates the lining of the food pipe. This is a persistent condition caused by stomach acid or bile flowing into the food pipe and irritating the lining. If you have acid reflux and heartburn more than twice a week, you may have GERD. Symptoms include a searing sensation in the chest that increases when lying down and generally comes after eating.
Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy:
Tonsils are small, round pieces located in the back mouth on both sides of the throat. Adenoids are high in the throat behind the nose and the roof of the mouth
Tonsil and adenoid are part of lymphatic system and helps to prevent infections. However sometimes they become large, inflamed due to allergy and persistent infections and might have to be removed.
Myringotomy
Myringotomy is a surgical procedure of the eardrum or tympanic membrane. The procedure is performed by making a small incision with a myringotomy knife through the layer of the tympanic membrane.
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)
Common of two forms of apnea, it is caused by a blockage of the airway, usually when the soft tissue in the back of the throat collapses during sleep.
Central sleep apnea:
Central sleep apnea (CSA) occurs when you stop breathing while sleeping on a regular basis because your brain does not signal your muscles to take in air. It differs from obstructive sleep apnea, which occurs when anything physically prevents you from breathing. However, you can have both types of sleep apnea, which is known as mixed sleep apnea.
Central sleep apnea is generally caused by a major disease, particularly one that affects your lower brainstem, which regulates your breathing. Central sleep apnea causes breathing pauses that can last up to 20 seconds in very young newborns..
Parathyroidectomy:
Parathyroidectomy is the surgical removal of one or more parathyroid glands. The parathyroid gland is from a rice-sized gland located on the back of the thyroid gland in the neck. The parathyroid gland makes Parathyroid Hormone.
Stapedectomy:
The surgical procedure of the middle ear is performed to improve hearing. If the stapes footplate is fixed in position rather than being normally mobile, thus conducting hearing loss, this surgery is required.
